Trubeskoi observed and learned from the experiments of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and brought his fresh style to Russia teaching in Moscow for eight years in the late 1890s and early 1900s. This catalogue publishes works of various periods in his career from the Museum of Landscape in Verbania, Italy (Museo del Paesaggio). Among the sculptural works are indelible portraits of great contemporaries such as Chaliapin, Shaw, and Tolstoi; tender images of parents and children; and society sculptures of Gertrude Vanderbilt (Mrs. Harry Whitney) and Romanov Grand Duchess Elizaveta Fedorovna, whom he dared to make enticing.
