Khudozhniki “Amaravelly”. Sud'by i tvorchestvo (Artists of the Amaravella Group: Life and Work)

Moscow: MBA, 2009. pb. On March 5, 1927, in New York, opened an international exhibition in which Soviet artists represented by the Amavarella Group took part for the first time. Their work was close in outlook to the philosophy of Nicholas Roerich: the unity of Man and the Universe sharply contrasted with other trends of Soviet art of the 1920s and fairly quickly led to the group’s suppression. Nevertheless, the Amaravella succeeded in leaving an inimitable mark on twentieth-century art, and the present book uses archival documents, including writings and correspondence of the artists, in an attempt to establish their place in the history of Russian art. The authors trace the style and manner of the group's members (V. N. Pshesetskaia, B.A. Smirnov-Rusetskii, P. P. Fateev, A. P. Sardan, S. I. Shigolev, V. T. Chernovolenko and others) and look at their ties with the cultural development of the period. Many of the paintings are being reproduced here for the first time. 208 p., 29 cm., 43 b-&-w and 60 color illus., pb., Rus. Item #10
