Viktor Pivovarov: Lisy i prazdniki / Viktor Pivovarov: foxes and feasts

Moscow: Muzei Vostoka, 2015. Sewn pb. The artist whose works are published in this catalogue of an exhibition at the State Museum of the Orient (Moscow) was a major figure in the artistic movement of the late Soviet period known as Moscow Conceptualism and has continued in the post-Soviet period to interpret and comment pungently on the world in his art. In the first part of this catalogue satirical drawings and paintings depict foxes as patrons of various groups  ("Patron of the pregnant and those in  doubt",  "patroness of artists and poets", "patron of those who get lost in the dusk"). In the second part the artist draws scenes of holidays and writes legends creating an imaginary context for them in which he seems to spoof the illusion of ethnic identity and religious freedom in the Soviet Union. 70 p., approx. 50 color illus., Rus. with title page and introduction in ENGLISH.
