The Rademakers Collection spans the first seven decades of the nineteenth century, with examples of nearly every genre and trend in the Romanticism of the Low Countries. Biedermeier in Belgium (Basile de Loose); Architecture: Dreams in Stone (Johannes Van Hove); Landscape: A Tribute to Nature (Barend Cornelis Koekkoek); Marine: Land of Sea and Beach (Louis Meijer), and Nocturnes: In the Light of Moon and Candle (Petrus Van Schendel). The two introductory articles deal respectively with Romanticism in the Netherlands and nineteenth-century Dutch and Belgian paintings in Russian collections and exhibitions.
