Tvorchestvo dobra. Peterburgskii arkhitektor Andrei Petrovich Aplaksin, 1879-1931 (In Pursuit of Good: Petersburg Architect Andrei Petrovich Aplaksin. 1879 – 1931)

St. Petersburg: Baltiiskaia zvezda. sewn. cl. The architect's name is familiar only to specialists but although many of his projects were destroyed or never realized, his role in shaping the architectural identity of St. Petersburg was quite significant. Living in a very difficult historical period for the country he constructed a number of monastery churches and dwelling houses, carried out restorations at the old Church of St. Sampsonius and the Kazan Cathedral, contributed to the preservation of the cultural heritage, worked as a teacher, and did many other good things in keeping with his life's credo. Few people know, for example, that he invented the first panel-built houses which were introduced long before their "famous" Canadian counterparts. The book traces Aplaksin's life and work, focusing on his main projects and restorations both in St. Petersburg and small towns near and around it (Yamburg, Staraia and Novaia Ladoga, Narva, Ivangorod). Of much interest to the specialist and layman alike will be the architect's letters and photographs from the family album. 256 pp., 203 b/w illus., 72x102 /16, Rus., 2013. Item #2094
