Totma: Architectural Heritage in Photographs / Tot’ma: arkhitekturnoe nasledie v fotografiiakh
Moscow: Tri kvadrata, 2005. pb. The town in the far north has been situated at its present site since the sixteenth century. The monastery ensemble perched above the river together with several eighteenth-century churches that combine baroque grandeur with more archaic elements impart to Tot’ma a splendor atypical for a town of only 10,000 inhabitants. The town’s best buildings though not in good condition have survived as a sign of its former prosperity, when the salt industry and fur trading flourished, and the beauty of a northern school of Russian architecture. 78 p., 8 ½ x 11 1/2 ins., 53 b-&-w illus., 2 color, Rus. and ENGLISH Series: Otkryvaia Rossiiu (Discovering Russia).
