The articles published in this issue of the Hermitage's Transactions derive from a conference at the Hermitage in 2012 "Two Centuries of Islamic Numismatics in Russia: Summaries and Perspectives." The beginning of the Hermitage's collection dates to Peter the Great's time, when Peter started the coin collection of his museum of curiosities, the Kunstkamera. The orientalist, G. Ia. Ker studied its coins originating in the Golden Horde. Eventuallyt the main collection of Islamic coins in the country was transferred to the Hermitage and numbers over 220,000 pieces.
