St. Petersburg: Muzei istorii Sankt-Peterburga, 2011. sewn pb. This catalogue features a rich selection of illustrated editions, engravings and lithographs of the seventeenth to the early twentieth century from the department of paintings and prints of the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg. Before 1918 this material was in the library of Duke Georgii Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1859-1909), Russian major general, art patron, musician and collector. Published in this catalogue are over 200 works originally collected in the second half of the nineteenth century by Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Though the collection was broken up after the revolution the remaining works published here make a coherent collection. Most date to the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century and reflect the interests of the age: cityscapes of Western Europe, exotic scenes of the Orient, and monuments of the ancient world. There are 215 full-page catalogue entries, each one accompanied by a picture of the work and often details of it, mostly in color.
