St. Petersburg: Kolo, 2014. Sewn cl. The halls and pavilions erected in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries were an expression of Russia's self-awareness — the interest in medieval art and its sense of a distinct and long culture led to the neo-Russian or Russian revival style, which was most evident in festival atmosphere of trade fairs and expositions. Builders and designers used traditional wooden forms and the symbols of the Russian empire to emphasize the distinctness of their "brand." The exhibitions at foreign fairs make up the second part of the book and connect the Russian experience with that of Europe and the United States. 415 p., 24 cm, approx. 300 b/w illus., Rus.
