Skul’ptor Baron Konstantin Raush fon Traubenberg (Sculptor Baron Konstantin Rausch von Traubenberg)

St. Petersburg: Herm, 2014. Sewn cl. The Hermitage curator and scholar devotes her research based on archival research and sculptural works in the Hermitage’s collection and other collections such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris to an artist who showed both a mastery of traditional techniques and genres and an openness to new forms. The sculptor gained recognition in the early 1900s through his portraits, equestrian sculptures, and commissions on historical subjects such as the History of the Guards. The last demonstrated his ability to use sources such as actual military uniforms and historical records to create works of art that were also visual documents. His work for the Imperial Porcelain Factory left a legacy of important small-scale sculptural works. Like many of his class and principles he emigrated after the 1917 revolution, and his work in Europe typified the fate of artists of the period who had to leave Russia. 200 pp., 7 x 10 ins., 110 b-&-w and color illus., sewn cl., Rus. with title page, contents, and summary in ENGLISH.
