El Lisitskii

Moscow: Tret'iakovskaia galereia / Evreiskii muzei, 2017. Sewn cl. Exhibited at the Tretyakov Gallery and the Jewish Museum and Center for Tolerance, both in Moscow, the paintings, drawings, graphic art, book art, architecture, photography, and pavilion designs published here show the spectrum of creativity of a promethean figure of the Russian avant-garde. Lisitskii's Prouns (projects of the utopian new art) are an attempt to schematically present the possibilities for harmonious development of society. His photomontages and so-called photograms were ways of experimenting with and juggling the basic capabilities of the camera; his book illustrations for Culture League (Kul'tur-Liga) demonstrate his familiarity with Jewish folk imagery and his ability to adapt it to avant-garde styles; and his designs for the USSR's pavilions at world fairs offered new ways to organize exhibition space. The catalogue publishes works come from museums and collections in Russia and Europe. 335 p, 25 cm, approx. 300 color and b/w illus., Rus. and ENGLISH. Item #2663
