Ekaterinburg: Tatlin, 2017. Saddle-stitched. Typical for the early years of the Soviet regime a nationalized private building (in this case the the Eparchy House) was reconstructed to meet new needs — a club for workers. The architect and engineer working in a style developed by the Russia-Soviet avant-garde, constructivism, managed to leave sound parts of the earlier building intact and make the two different architectural periods coexist harmoniously. Clubs in the early Soviet period had both an educational and recreational role, and the large open spaces of the old building were easily adapted for an assembly room and even a theater in the new club. The author follows the use of the building over its 100-year history. pp. 805–853, 25 cm, approx. 20 color and b/w illus., Rus. Item #3166
