Andrei Dubov
St. Petersburg: Rus muz, 2018. Sewn cl. These paintings done from the 1980s to the present demonstrate the vitality of traditional genres such as the landscape and the still-life in contemporary art. In the still-life Dubov focuses on muted shadowy but homey corners of an interior—he paints the objects to evoke the life and character of the person to whom they belong. His landscapes and cityscapes also have subdued colors, more shade than sun, and thus draw us into the essential form of houses, streets, trees. The figures he populates his scenes with are contemplative and indistinct, Dubov aptly suggesting in few strokes mood and character. 119 p., 23 x 25 cm, approx. 100 color illus., Rus. and ENGLISH.
