Arkhitektor Karl Shmidt: Zhizn i tvorchestvo (Architect Karl Schmidt: Life and Work)

St. Petersburg: Kolo, 2011. Sewn cl. Karl Schmidt was a talented Petersburg exponent of Russian moderne or art nouveau. His best works include the building for the firm of Carl Fabergé, the Forostovski mansion, the Kenig and Schulz apartment houses, the Palace of Princess Palei at Tsarskoe Selo, and his own villa at Pavlovsk. Based on the architect’s reminiscences, this book has been written by his granddaughter Erika Fogt. She describes his childhood, the years of study and professional activity as well as the forced departure of the Schmidt family to Germany against the background of the architect's life in the early twentieth century. The biographical essay is supplemented with Boris Kirikov’s analytical survey of Schmidt's architectural legacy. The book contains nearly 200 photographs from Karl Schmidt’s personal archive, copious reference material such as the family tree of the Schmidts and the Fabergés and a list of the main events in the architect’s life. 272 pp., illus., 60x90 1/16, Rus.
