St. Petersburg: Herm, 2020. Saddle-stitched. This brief catalog of a Hermitage exhibition unfolds the life of one Alexander II's sons. Sergei had an impact on the culture of his time. He became the head of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society when he was on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land undertaken after his father's assassination. As a collector and patron of the arts he brought art back from the Middle East, such as a collection of ancient terracottas, and donated works to the Historical Museum and Stroganov Institute. He also supported the founding of the Museum of Fine Arts. His collection at the time of his assassination in 1905 numbered about 200 works, which his widow donated to the Hermitage, a choice selection of which especially miniatures and snuffboxes of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries is published here. 26 p., 21 cm, approx. 40 color illus., Rus.
