It is difficult to imagine how many eminent talents Diagilev attracted at one period of theatrical and musical history: major artists from Russia such as Lev Bakst, Konstantin Somov, Mikhail Larionov, Konstantin Korovin, Boris Kustodiev, and Natalia Goncharova, and in Western Europe such figures as Jean Cocteau, Pierre Bonnard, Gabrielle Chanel, and Giorgio de Chirico were willing to collaborate in Diagilev's productions.
