Kazan: Zaman, 2019. Sewn pb. This is the first scholarly catalogue of the editions of the Koran published in Kazan between 1816 and 1918. Each book is described in detail and the colophon with basic data about the edition is reproduced in Tatar or Arabic. The publication of the Koran ended abruptly after the bolshevik revolution. The rather frequent printings (165) during the last century of the Imperial period indicate the prevalence of religious tolerance, and it was at Emperor Paul's initiative that the first typography in Kazan was opened in the late 1790s. Regis Blachère, the French scholar, pointed out the significant role in the consistency and coherence of the text which editions of the Koran printed in Kazan played during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. 44 p., approx. 60 color illus., Rus. and Tatar with summary in English on copyright page.
