Liudmila Maiakovskaia

Moscow: Muz Maiakovskogo, 2010. sewn pb. Besides the insights into his life that Liudmila Maiakovskii's relationship with her brother provides, she was an artist and designer herself. As the photographs from the early twentieth century reveal, she was among the first women to make a career of design — in group photos with fellow teachers at the Textile Institute or with other designers at the textile factories where she worked, she is the only woman. Only after her death when she bequeathed her drawings to the State Mayakovsky Museum did exhibitions in Russia, England and Italy establish her place as a significant woman artist whose textile design form a significant offshoot of the avant-garde. The section of plates in this catalogue demonstrates her innovative style, and the written documents reflect her life in Soviet artistic circles. 240 p., 26 x 21 cm, approx. 100 color and b/w illus., Rus.
