The author attributes the works to artists at over twenty workshops from the most well-known such as Fabergé, Ovchinnikov, and Khlebnikov to less well-known ones. The works thus amount to a good survey of aesthetic and technical aspects of one branch of Russian applied and decorative arts during the last century or so of the imperial period. The author points out the highlights of the collection and the characteristics of the silversmith workshops, which are listed in a useful appendix.
