These works, mainly sculptural figurines and services, are products of the preeminent porcelain factory in Russia, the successor of the Imperial Porcelain Factory known in the early 1920s as the State Porcelain Factory and after 1924 as the Leningrad Lomonosov Porcelain Factory. The first chapter comprises pieces based on models created in the last years of the tsarist period - they reflect the interests and tastes of the period: dancers and courtiers, peasants, colorfully dressed representatives of the exotic peoples of the Russian empire. The second and third chapters show styles arising the new Soviet period, from plates commemorating Lenin and symbols of the revolution to new Soviet imagery such as workers and peasants embracing, and heroic types like pilots and border guards. 350 p., 29 cm, approx. 500 color illus., Rus.
