St. Petersburg: Vserossiiskii muzei A. S. Pushkina, 2012. Sewn pb. The engravings in Gavrill Derzhavin's collection were done in London in the last quarter of the eighteenth century. For Russia's first great secular poet, they were a source of inspiration and imagery. The relationship between the artist of the original and the person who engraves it, notes the compiler, is similar to that between composer and musician: the latter has leeway of interpretation with the framework set by the composer. Angelica Kaufman and Benjamin West were among the poet's favorite artists. 96 p., 32 cm., approx. 50 b/w illus., Rus. Item #131
