Sud’ba uchenogo: K 100-letiiu so dnia rozhdeniia Borisa Aleksandrovich Latynina (The Fate of a Scholar: [Articles Published on the Occasion of the] 100th Anniversary of the Birth of B. A. Latynina)

St. Petersburg: Herm, 2000. Pb. The authors of these articles unfold the research interests of the Hermitage scholar B. A. Latynin (1899–1967) as reflected in the work of scholars whose research he inspired. The chapters deal with such subjects as burial practices of the Early Bronze Age in Southeast Europe, parallels between Near Eastern burial mounds of northwest Iran and those of the northern Caucasus, sedentary culture and cattle-raising culture in Central Asia in the Early Iron Age. A selection of Latynin’s correspondence and archival materials that pertain to his work are also published. Of special interest and alluding to the title "fate" is his correspondence with the chief procurator of the Soviet Union pleading for his rehabilitation—born into a noble family before the revolution he was exiled in the early 1930s from Leningrad where he worked at the Hermitage and in 1936 was arrested and did his sentence in the infamous Kolyma camp of the Gulag. 280 pp., 7 x 10 ins., 28 b-&-w illus., Rus. with title page, table of contents and summaries in ENGLISH.
