Gatchina: Gatchina, 2002. saddle-stitched. According to an eighteenth-century vogue for imaginative architectural structures in parks around palaces, Grand Duchess Maria Fedorovna commissioned a park structure for her husband Grand Duke Paul (later Emperor) that from the outside resembled several cords of birch logs, but on the inside had a cozy but luxurious neoclassical interior in masonry with wall- and ceiling paintings, and grisaille along the perimeters.
