Dominiko Trezini (Domeniko Trezini)
St. Petersburg: Kriga, 2007. sewn cl. Besides looking at Trezini’s famous buildings for the new Russian capital, such as the Sts. Peter and Paul Cathedral, the Summer Palace, and the Building of the Twelve Colleges, the author probes the way Trezini’s work on town planning, especially the layout of Vasil’ev Island, and his designs for one and two-story residences shaped the Russian city in the early eighteenth century. Trezini also innovated in monumental entranceways successfully combining sculpture and architecture, for example, in the Peter Gates (Petrovskie vorota) of the Peter and Paul fortress. In addition to architectural criticism, the author has delved into many written records of the first half of the eighteenth century to reconstruct the business, family, and creative life of the imperial capital's chief planner. An appendix publishes excerpts from 180 letters. 231 p., 8 1/2 x 11 ins., 11 b-&-w illus., Rus. Item #2180
