These portrait miniatures exhibited at Pavlovsk Museum-Preserve were commissioned or collected by the empress Maria Fedorovna, wife of Paul I, in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century for her own portrait room. They are valuable visual documents of the empress's court, family and friends, and they are good example of miniatures, which were then in their heyday by artists from Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy and Russia.
