St. Petersburg: Muzei istorii Sankt-Peterburga, 2013. sewn pb. This exhibition catalogue publishes architectural sketches, drawings, engravings and lithographs together with a sampling of photos and paintings collected by Argutinskii-Dolgorukov in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century when he was one of the founders of the Museum of Old St. Petersburg, predecessor of the current State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg. A cultivated and aristocratic collector, close to the World of Art circle, he primarily sought vedute, architectural drawings, and landscapes by both Russian artists and Western European ones working in Russia such as Bartolomeo Francesco Rastrelli, Giacomo Quarenghi, Charles Cameron, Thomas de Thomas, and Giovanni Scotti. St. Petersburg and its suburban palaces were his main interest. The catalogue follows a trend in the West and in Russia to illuminate the careers of collectors to whom museums are indebted. 334 p., 27 cm, approx. 500 color and b/w illus., Rus. Item #237
