The art nouveau town house that is the subject of this monograph is a notable work of Severnyi modern (northern art nouveau), but its uniqueness comes from the interiors designed by the architect in collaboration with such artists as Mikhail Vrubel'. The building and its interiors are studied in the context of the building’s being the residence of a big family of prominent scholars thanks to whom the beautiful enamels, murals, and fireplaces survived the perilous 1920s and 30s.
