Orlovskii muzei izobrazitel'nykh iskusstv (Orlov Museum of Fine Arts )

Orlov: Orlik, 2015. Sewn cl. Like many Russian provincial museums the Orlov Museum of Fine Arts had its foundation laid in the tsarist period when a local celebrity A. N. Nikolaeva, opera singer and collector, gave her collection of over 200 paintings to the Orlov Gubernia Museum. After the 1917 revolution the museum became a state museum and gained many works from nationalized church, monastery, and private collections. It offers an excellent overview of Russian church and secular art with representative icons, royal doors and sculpture of the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries, and paintings by major and minor artists of every period from from first great secular portraitist Borovikovskii to symbolists like Elena Polenova and avant-garde artists like Natalia Goncharova and Elena Guro. Works for various decades of the Soviet period are also published in this collection catalogue. 258 p., 29 cm,approx. 250 color illus., Rus. Item #2561
