Arkhitektura stadionov / Stadium Architecture

Moscow: Kuchkovo pole / Muzei arkhitektury im. A.V. Shchuseva, 2018. Sewn pb. The theme of the 1917 revolution and the way in which Soviet power changed Russia is a central in this catalogue of an exhibition at the Shchusev Museum of Architecture. If palaces were the architectural expression of the tsarist regime (or of monarchies more generally), architecture for the masses in the form of a stadium suited the people's state. The avant-garde styles of the 1920s and early 1930s shaped civic buildings, housing, industrial complexes, and of course stadiums. Designs both imagined and realized by such architects as Noi Trotskii, Mikhail Korzhev, and El Lisitskii are shown here through drawings, plans and photographs. A second section covering the 1950s to the 1970s is termed "Soviet modernism" and has examples that succeeded for both practical functionality and stylistic distinction. A final section correspond to recent world practice (including the prep for 2018 World Cup). 311 p., 29 cm, approx. 40 color illus., Rus. and ENGLISH. Item #2773
