St. Petersburg: Muzei istorii Sankt-Peterburga, 2014. sewn pb. These post cards from the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg were published during the last decade of the nineteenth and first two decades of the twentieth centuries by publishers in Russia, Great Britain, Germany, Austria-Hungary and France. Among the Russian artists are well-known illustrators B. V. Zvorykin, E. M. Bem, and  P. I. Klimenko. Subjects vary, but the symbol of fertility, the egg and the chick, appear in many illustrations, as do the traditional Orthodox Russian Easter cakes, kulich and paskha, the rooster as an allusion to Peter's denial of Jesus, and the rabbit borrowed from German legend of the rabbit as the one who spread around Easter eggs for children to find. The author's emphasis on attribution, place and date of publication, make the catalogue a good reference on this genre of graphic art. 179 p., approx. 300 color illus., Rus. . 179 p., 26 cm, approx. 350 color illus., Rus.
