St. Petersburg: Herm, 2018. Pb. This history of the Hermitage library and arsenal (arms were for some reason considered part of the Romanovs’ book collection) at its two-hundredth anniversary became its comprehensive history: the Russian Empire ceased to be two years later, and there was no longer a private library. The history has interest both as a snapshot of a great library and a record of the interests and educational level of the leaders of the Russian empire. Shcheglov’s work is published as a facsimile introduced and annotated by the Hermitage’s curator. Bibliography and index. 273 p., 26 cm, approx. 20 color illus., Rus. with summary in ENGLISH.
