Moscow: Muzei istorii GULAGa, 2018. Sewn cl. Boris Kreitser trained in the 1920s as an architect but was later accused of formalism and switched to book illustration. His father before the revolution was an engineer and often traveled with his family abroad. In 1938 these factors in his biography were suspicious enough to lead to his arrest on charges of spying. He served 8 years, but was rearrested in 1948 and sentenced to permanent exile. In 1955 after Stalin’s death he was rehabilitated. This edition in the Museum of the GULAG’s series Things as Documents (Veshchdok) publishes drawings that Kreitser did as a prisoner — as an artist he was given at one point the job of designing toys — and book and poster art that he did in Leningrad where he managed to resume his career after 17 years of prison camp and exile. 304 p., approx. 150 color and b/w illus. , Rus.
