This is the first scholarly catalogue of the collection of glass at Arkhangel'skoe Estate-Museum, which as the home of Nikolai Borisovich Yusupov in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries became the center of his collecting activity, one result of which was a major collection of Western European glass of the seventeenth to the nineteenth centuries — especially strong in English, Bohemian and French works. What was unique were the workshops and factories, resulting from Yusupov's entrepreneurship and artistic bent, in which he designed and made ceramics, porcelain, and glass. works of glass make up about two-thirds of the collection (some 150 pieces). Most are fine examples of crystal — vases, candle holders, bowls, drinking vessels of various forms (bokal, riumka, remer, stakan, bratina, kruzhka) — but he also made works for everyday needs — pitchers for bathing, glasses, measuring cups. Yusupov's production capacity comprised several techniques producing such varieties as lead crystal, colored glass, faceted and engraved glass.
