This monograph and compilation of documents published on the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II chronicles the risks taken by museum workers to prepare works from the museum's collections for evacuation even as the Nazi onslaught came closer and to hide those that could not be evacuated by burying them in the grounds around the palace. Included are albums of photographs and such written sources as diaries and letters, photographed and written by the German soldiers who occupied the town of Pushkin outside Leningrad where Tsarskoe Selo is located.
