St. Petersburg: Pavlovsk, 2020. Sewn pb. This volume of the Pavlovsk's complete collection catalogues continues the publication of volume 10 devoted to art bronzes. Cataloguing and illustrating the full collection of over 200 chandeliers, hanging lamps, and sconces, specifies where and when the object was made, the artist's name or workshop, materials and techniques, size, possible inscriptions, and provenance. Commentary touches on attributions, location and use of the works (most come from the historical collection of Pavlovsk as residence of Maria Fedorovna and Paul). The scholarly apparatus includes an index of craftsmen and artists, most of whom were working in St. Petersburg or Paris, a list of archival sources, and a bibliography. In her instroduction the author points our especially rare or distinguished works in the collection, analogies elsewhere, unusual styles (such as the cobalt glass produced in St. Petersburg in the late eighteenth century), and especially original workmanship or design (e.g. the Scottish architect Charles Cameron's lamps done as he designed Pavlovsk's interiors). Some of the works are published here for the first time. 186 p., 27 cm, approx. 200 color illus., Rus. Item #4110
