Pamiatniki vizantiiskogo khudozhestvennogo metalla IX – XV vekov. Katalog kollektsii / Byzantine Artistic Metalwork, Ninth – Fifteenth Centuries. Catalogue of the Hermitage] Collection,, 9785935729561; IX-XV .

St. Petersburg: Herm, 2021. Sewn cl. The curator of medieval and Byzantine fine arts and applied arts at the Hermitage points out in her introduction to this catalogue of the Hermitage's collection the importance of metalwork in seeing the artistic achievements of the Byzantium: first, so much of monumental art was lost after Turkish conquest of Byzantine territory that an art like metalwork much more of which survived is a primary form of evidence, second, the artistry of some of the works, especially those from gold and silver, attains a level as high as that of the fine arts (most clear perhaps in the icons from metal with enameled and engraved images) . The works of gold and silver in the Hermitage have been published before, but their provenance and attribution are still being studied so complex are the shifting jurisdictions and influences of the region (crusader territories, sultanates, the Bulgarian kingdom). Published for the first time in this collection catalogue are many of the works of bronze. There are also a few pieces from iron and lead. Index, list of exhibitions, and bibliography. The excellent photography and Italian printing make possible a close study of the works. 196 p., 28 cm, approx. 300 color illus., Rus. with title page, table of contents and full introduction in ENGLISH.
