During his trips through Central Asia in the first years of the twentieth century Dudin photographed many aspects of the lives of peoples that he encountered and his photographs are extraordinary visual documents of Central Asian peoples and life only a few years before the onset of the Soviet period. In his detailed written reports on each place he visited such as several towns and villages in Uzbekistan and Kirgizstan he describes dwellings, occupations, clothing, and such rituals and holidays as weddings.
