Podnesenie k Rozhdestvu: Rudol'f Vil'de (1868–1938): Farfor, steklo, grafika (A Christmas Gift. Rudolph Wilde [1868–1938]: Porcelain, Glass, Graphics), 9785935728100
St. Petersburg: Herm, 2018. Sewn pb. The artist whose works are published in this Hermitage exhibition catalogue had a singular ability to channel his creativity in different directions. Graduating from the Stieglitz School of Technical Drawing in the last years of the nineteenth century, he became a designer of crystal, glass, and porcelain at the Imperial Porcelain Factory. His designs tended toward Art Nouveau, and he also used folk motifs associated with the Russian Revival style. After the 1917 revolution he took up the new imagery of the Soviet period with equal verve creating agitprop designs for porcelain which elegantly interwove slogans of the new regime with imagery of workers, peasants, factories, and tools. 230 p., 27 cm, approx. 200 color illus., Rus. with title page and summary in ENGLISH.
