Lev Iudin: “skazat’ svoe” (Lev Iudin: “having one’s say”)
St. Petersburg: Rus muz, 2020. Sewn cl. Lev Iudin’s career ended at age 38 when he was killed in the first battle he took part in near Leningrad in November 1941. In the 1920s as an artist and theorist, he was at the center of the most inventive and experimental art associations and schools, first in Vitebsk as part of the group founded by Malevich UNOVIS (Fouders of the art) and then in Petrograd, where he taught at GINKHUK (State institute of artistic culture). The works published in this Russian Museum exhibition catalog are seldom on display and include paintings, drawings, and many examples of his book art — covers and illustrations — especially for children's books. They amaze by the artist’s originality (his own believed, “I see what no one else can see ”) and his constant reinventing of his art. The works published here come from eight different museums, and libraries. 132 p., approx. 150 color and b/w illus., Rus. Item #4476
