Neoklassitsizm v Rossii (Russian Neoclassicism)
St. Petersburg: Rus muz, 2008. Sewn cl. Various genres are pubished here, but painting predominates. The first few decades of the twentieth century demonstrate how various Western European trends together with the ferment of Russia's Silver Age led to many original works of art. Neoclassical seems to refer to the artists' adhering to representational art; however, it is far from realistic: even when the figures are clear and recognizable, such as in Falk's, Annenkov's, and Shukhaev's portrait, the tone is modernist and edgy. The curators authors find examples of the style in the paintings and drawings of the such artists as V. A. Serov, S. Iu. Zhukovskii, L. S. Bakst, B. D. Grigor'ev, S. Chekhonin, K. S. Petrov- Vodkin, A. P. Ostroumova-Lebedeva, M. V. Dobuzhinskii, V. I. Shukhaev, A. E. Iakovlev, V. V. Kandinskii, A. Ia. Golovin, and E. E. Lanseré; in the works of sculptors such as S. T. Konenkov and A. T. Matveev; and in the designs of the architects F. I. Lidval', I. A. Fomin, N. G. Lazarev, I. V. Zholtovskii, V. D. Adamovich, F. O. Shekhtel', V. F. Svin’in, E. S. Vorotilov, V. A. Shchuko, A. A. Grechannikov, R. F. Mel'tser, M. S. Lialevich, and A. I. Ditrikh, among others. 215 pp., 9 1/4 x 13 ins., approx. 200 color, Rus. Item #4658
