Ikony Rybinska (Icons of Rybinsk)

Rybinsk: Rybinskii dom pechati, 2009. Sewn cl. The icons published in this collection catalogue of the Rybinsk State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum originated in regional churches and monasteries — for example, Ascension Church; St. George the Victorious Church; Kazan Mother of God Church; Transfiguration Cathedral; Iversk Mother of God Church; Assumption Church in the village of Balovanovo — and in the shrines of individual believers; there are thus large works for public worship and smaller ones for home devotion. Some works date to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries; other to the imperial period. Some show the influence of Western European art; others such as those of Old Believers preserve an archaic medieval styles. The author introduces the catalogue describing and illustrating the extant church and monastic sources and estates that housed private collections of the gentry. 479 p., 29 cm, approx. 400 color illus., Rus.
