"Mebel'nye raritety sem'i Demidovykh. Istoriia i restavratsiia (Furniture rarities of the Demidov family: history and restoration); " . "
St. Petersburg: Herm, 2024. Sewn pb. The Demidovs began amassing their fortune from mining, metalwork and arms in the early eighteenth century during the reign of Peter the Great. They used their wealth among other things to promote craftsmanship and artistry in the manufacture of domestic objects. Most of the works published in this Hermitage monograph were made in eighteenth-century Russia and others in Western Europe. A work commissioned by the Demidovs in the 1760s with the initials of Catherine the Great has recently undergone restoration made possible by a private collector who bought an analogous work from the Demidovs' estate in France "Pratolino" and brought it to the Hermitage as a model for restoring the museum's work in a unique example of collaboration. Archival photos show works of furniture in their nineteenth-century palace interiors. Section headings:. the Hermitage commode; the commode from Pratolino; Nikita Demidov who commissioned and owned the work; Nikita Demidov's estate on the Moika River; NIkita Demidov and the Academy of Arts; a pair of commodes with the initials EII (Catherine II); provenance of the commodes; the Hermitage commode and its restoration. 192 p., 23 cm, approx. 100 color illus., Rus. with title page and summary in ENGLISH.
