Moscow: Pinakoteka, 2009. sewn cl. Catalogued here are works produced at the porcelain factory founded by the great collector and patron of the arts Nikolai Yusupov. The works are now held by about twelve museums in Russia, including the Yusupov Museum Estate, the Historical Museum in Moscow, the Museum of Ceramics at Kuskovo Museum-Estate, and the Hermitage. Yusupov was not only a great collector of Western European painting and patron of the arts who commissioned many significant works; what enabled him to make a unique contribution to the arts of Russia was his combination of technical know how and refined taste: he was able to found a factory that from 1818 until 1829 produced outstanding examples of porcelain that combined styles of the period in way that reflected Yusupov's distinct aesthetics. The book illustrates many works in sharp color plates and catalogues 873 pieces with full information on condition, exhibitions, and sources of decoration. Some works are published for the first time. 327 p., 29 cm., approx. 400 color and b/w illus., Rus. Item #58
