Moda na botaniku: tsvetochnyi mir Petergofa (Botanical Vogue: Flora of Peterhof)

St. Petersburg: Petergof, 2014. sewn cl. Peterhof, the oldest and grandest of the suburban palace ensembles outside St. Petersburg, is known for its gardens as much as for its great architecture. Peterhof Museum-Preserve publishes floral drawings from its rare book department and works of decorative art with floral ornaments. Peterhof was founded during Peter the Great's reign, and it was his interest in European gardens that shaped the initial landscaping and initiated the tradition of collecting botanical books. Later in the eighteenth century Catherine the Great furthered the interest by commissioning the first book on Russian flora, and the wife of her son (Emperor Paul I) Maria Fedorovna designed gardens and ordered all of Pierre-Joseph Redouté's magnificent botanical books. The tradition continued in the nineteenth century as Nicholas I's wife Alexandra Fedorovna planted around her new cottage gardens in the romantic style. 85 p., 35 cm., approx. 123 color illus., Rus.
