The works catalogued here entered the Russian State Library (State Lenin Library at that time) as trophy art taken by Soviet forces from the German Museum of the Book in Leipzig. Since it is only recently that Russian Federation policy "On Displaced Cultural Valuables" permitted the study and publication of art taken as a form of indemnification, this catalogue makes available to researchers for the first time since before the war an important source on printing. The connection between fabrics and books lies in similar technique of printing patterns on fabrics and printing illustrations in books.
