St. Petersburg: Pavlovsk, 2012. sewn pb. In this catalogue of an exhibition at Pavlovsk Palace Museum-Preserve paintings, watercolors, drawings, engravings, medals, reliefs, sculpture, and written documents (memorabilia, reports, manuscripts, manifestoes, journals, books) from the collections of several museums and archives (Pavlovsk Museum Preserve, the Russian State Historical Archives, and the National Library of Russia) illustrate the magnitude of the events in the climacteric period of Napoleon’s invasion of Russia. The ceramic reliefs by Fedor Tolstoi and the caricatures of Napoleon by Russian and Western European artists are among the most vivid pieces. A unique document accompanies the catalogue: notes by Maria Fedorovna, the widow of Emperor Paul and mother of Emperor Alexander I, written during this period are published for the first time. Entitled "Notes on the Farm" (1809-1828) (“Zametki na ferme”), they convey her impressions of the events of that period, particularly of the War of 1812–14. 320 pp., 7 7/8 x 7 7/8 ins., 182 b-&-w and color illus., sewn pp., Rus.
