St. Petersburg: Muzei politicheskoi istorii, 2004. sewn pb. In the late eighties and early nineties artists for the first time felt unshackled and free to express openly in their work the troubles of Soviet Russian society. The posters published here stem from such exhibitions of graphic art as the 1988 “Sovest’” (Conscience) and 1989 “Glasnost.’” The poster genre of words and images was adhered to, but the posters had no large print runs (hence “authors’ posters” or “artists’ posters”). Varying in stylistic polish, they all convey the energy and innovation of the last Soviet years and first years of the new Russian Federation. 246 pp., 81/2 x 12 ins., 379 color illus., sewn pb., Rus. with intro. in ENGLISH.
