Bronze Horseman returned on February 23 from a book-buying trip to St. Petersburg, Moscow, and Helsinki. In St. Petersburg Zakhar Kolovskii, the director of Rosphoto, the State Museum and Exhibition Center specializing in photography, gave us a preview of a new exhibition on Soviet photo books. We have just added to our list the excellent exhibition catalogue: Fotokniga SSSR / The Photobook in the USSR curated by Mikhail Karasik. In Moscow at the Institute of Art History we attended the presentation of two new volumes of the History of Russian Art (Istoriia russkogo iskusstva) published by Northern Pilgrim. It is an important undertaking organized by the late Aleksei Komech when he was head of the Institute; the last such comprehensive history was published in the 1950s ad 60s. We have added the two new volumes (2.2 and 13) to our list. In Helsinki we met with the Design Museum and will be carrying their distinctive exhibition catalogues.
